Biography
Professor Farhat Anwar was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue his Ph.D in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, UK and obtained the degree in 1996. Earlier, he earned his Master's and Bachelor (with Honours) degrees in Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prof. Anwar started his teaching career as a lecturer at the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1988. He has been with IIUM since 1999 and is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). He was appointed Head of the ECE Department from July 2003 to June 2005, Postgraduate Academic Advisor for ECE from June 2010 to May 2012, Internal Reviewer for the CIE programme (2007- 2008) and Student Advisor for the CIE programme (2001-2003). He is also actively involved as a member of the Accreditation Committee, Curriculum Committee and Board of Studies for CIE and CE programmes of the ECE department. Prof. Anwar is the coordinator of the Computer Networking Research Group. He has successfully secured many internal and external grants for his research activities including research consultancy for MIMOS' Wireless Communications Lab (2007-2010). He has supervised more than 30 Ph.D and Master theses and has published well over 110 papers in international refereed journals and conference proceedings. Prof. Anwar has also published, 'Research Issues in Wireless Communications and Networking' and 29 book chapters with various publishers. He has been invited to give talks at seminars and public lectures organized by UTeM, UPM, MYREN and IIUM, has acted as an external examiner and assessor for numerous leading universities in Malaysia, and has been actively involved with numerous national and international conferences in different capacities. Prof. Anwar is a member of many professional organizations including IEEE and ACM.
